DIORAMA MODELS

A car doesn't stand on its wheels alone; it belongs within a specific context. Discovering this transformed how I view model making, driving me to build full scenes for my cars. Every diorama requires fabricating hundreds of tiny, intricate details with meticulous care.

Step 1

Craft the thing, but on the notebook. The most creative process is actually listing out all the dimensions, components, materials that I will need.

Step 3

Go small. I would render out all the tiny bits then 3D-print them. For posters, I design and print them out in thin decals.

Step 2

Preparing the components: From rough sheets of foam and a bundle of plastic rods, I cut out the base, walls and pillars of my models. Then, I use grinding machines to sand them off to precision. I then paint the components in the base shade.

Step 4

Assemble! I connect the walls together, using mortar to patch the surface and smooth out the joints.
